ACER K10 mini video projector

ACER is the world’s number two in terms of video projection for the last four consecutive quarters. In my opinion, ACER strategists do not want to relinquish their positions anytime soon as the last releases of their competitors, 3M and Aiptek, have put pressure on them. ACER unveils a competing product with high performances.

Here are the words of ACER’s Director of Marketing as they celebrate the release of this new product:

”We are excited to see ACER leveraging DLP technology to create products that will serve entirely new markets as well as products that will accelerate the growth of existing markets - all by adding even greater value to entertainment and communication experiences.”

Technical specifications:

This mini video projector has 100 lumens, 10 times more than nowdays picoprojectors but weighs 3 times heavier. You therefore cannot put it in the pocket of your jacket, which is a weakness compared to other picos.

This mini video projector, ACER K10, uses DLP technology combined with LED technology and offers a resolution of 800 X 600 pixels (SVGA) against 640 X 480 (VGA) for a classic picoprojector.

With a 2.4 meters distance, the K10 will project an image of 60 inches, which is approximately what are picoprojectors capable of. The advantage of the K10 is “keystone correction“. When the projector is not set perfectly perpendicular to the screen, it will cause a trapezoidal image that is referred to as “keystoning”, or a keystone problem. The K10’s “keystone correction” option will correct this problem.

The varranty, like all ACER products, is 2 years.

The price is between 400€ and 500€ - one and a half times more than a conventional picoprojector.

This mini video projector cannot be compared to the Aiptek V10 as the Aiptek has an integrated hard disk drive that allows you to move without your PC, iPhone, PSP…
